Burtner among those honored by MEDA

ABERDEEN, Md. - The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) has honored three members of the organization for their long-standing contributions to the state's economic development efforts.

· John R. Sundergill, director of economic development for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company for the past 21 years, has been named to MEDA's Hall of Fame.

· Gary S. Murray Sr., chairman of the Maryland Economic Development Commission and founder and managing member of HumanVision LLC, was named as MEDA's Volunteer of the Year.

· Leroy R. Burtner, who was director of economic development for the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission.

Burtner is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Commercial and Residential Real Estate Services in Hagerstown.

He served as executive director of the Hagerstown/Washington County Economic Development Commission from 1978 to 1994, marketing the region to businesses and assisting local companies in their efforts to grow and prosper. From 1995 to 1998, he served as executive director of the Hagerstown/Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau.


He is a former president of MEDA.

Established in 1961, MEDA promotes the economic well-being of Maryland by working to improve the state's business climate and the professionalism of people working in economic development.

MEDA members include 460 economic development professionals who work for government, business, chambers of commerce and other institutions.
