A Virginia man will face charges in Washington County Circuit Court stemming from an incident at Valley Mall in 2003, according to court records.

Probable cause was found to foward all charges against Trevor J. Shane, 27, of 4306 Oak Leaf Drive, Roanoke, Va., during a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Shane was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person and theft less than $500, records state.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department alleges Shane, in November 2003, tried to leave Sears at Valley Mall with a shopping cart full of tools valued at $294. When employees confronted him, Shane pulled what appeared to be a handgun from his pants and left the area without taking the tools, deputies allege.

Investigators have said the weapon was a BB gun.
