Sheriff's deputies respond to calls

June 16, 2005

The Washington County Sheriff's Office recently responded to the following calls:

Tuesday:

  • At 8 a.m., a car stereo was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on the 1800 block of Chickasaw Court off Md. 65.

  • At 9 a.m., three stereos were reported stolen from separate vehicles outside a residence in the 21100 block of Twin Springs Drive near Chewsville. The stereos were valued at about $800.

  • At 11 a.m., a stereo was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 10400 block of Bear Creek Drive off Md. 65.

  • At 1:30 p.m., a wallet was reported missing from Williamsport's pool in Byron Memorial Park.

  • At 3 p.m., three lights were reported broken in the rear of Sharpsburg Elementary School. The damage was estimated at about $100.

  • At 8:30 p.m., a purse and briefcase were reported stolen from separate vehicles parked outside a residence in the 9900 block of Stephanie Lane off Md. 65.





Hagerstown police respond to calls


The Hagerstown Police Department recently responded to the following calls:

Monday:

  • At 12:07 a.m., a window was reported broken in the first block of East Washington Street.

  • At 8:30 a.m., a handgun was found in the 1300 block of Doub Way.

  • At 9:30 a.m., a rear Maryland registration tag was reported stolen from a vehicle in the first block of West Washington Street.

  • At 2:08 p.m., a handgun and a cell phone were reported stolen in the 200 block of West Franklin Street.

  • At 6:20 p.m., a grill was reported stolen in the 12900 block of Little Hayden Circle.





Cash reported stolen from church


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A burglary was reported Tuesday at the Antrim Assembly of God Church in Greencastle, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

Police said about $1,500 was stolen from the church at 11192 Bemisderfer Road. Police said entry was gained through the rear doors of the church.




Flags stolen from cemetery in Pa.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - About 25 American flags reportedly were vandalized in Chambersburg in recent days, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

Police said the incidents occurred at Norland Cemetery, 2295 Philadelphia Ave., between Saturday and Monday. Police said flags were removed from monuments during the incident.




Departments respond to Tuesday night fire


SANDY HOOK - Firefighters from three counties responded to a Tuesday evening fire reported in southern Washington County, a Washington County 911 Center dispatcher said.

The fire was reported at about 9:30 p.m. in the 19400 block of Keep Tryst Road by the homeowner, the dispatcher said. Upon arrival, firefighters reported that smoke was showing and portions of the house's third floor were on fire, she said.

Several departments from Jefferson County, W.Va., and Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland, including the Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Co., the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and the First Hose Co. of Boonsboro, responded to the fire. Representatives from those three departments could not be reached late Tuesday.

No serious injuries were reported in the incident, the dispatcher said.
