HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - A single-vehicle accident on South Madden Road claimed the life of Ben David Knepper, 27, of Drifting Lane Monday, Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg, Pa., said Tuesday.

The accident occurred at 3:10 p.m. According to police, Knepper was traveling south on the road about a mile north of Pa. 475 when he lost control of his car on the wet road and hit a tree.

He was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knepper was the son of Dick A. and Ruth Knepper of Hustontown. He was studying for an associate's degree in business management at Penn State Mont Alto.

"He was planning on moving to Penn State's main campus after that to get his bachelor's degree," his mother said Tuesday.

Knepper worked as a group leader in the Building and Grounds Maintenance Department at JLG Industries in McConnnellsburg.

He was active in sports, his mother said. He belonged to the Tuscarora Softball League in Mercersburg, PA., and liked to hunt and fish.

NASCAR was his greatest love, she said. While he would only go to see live racing in Richmond, Va., he and his friends, Zachary, Joshua and Josie Newman, would spend Sunday afternoons in the Newman's garage watching the races.

"They had three televisions in the garage," his mother said.

"He was a wonderful boy who had lots of friends," she said.
