Sacchet's resignation letter

June 10, 2005

"An open letter to my staff at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown and to Commissioner Frank Sizer"

It is with much thought and soul searching that I (end) my thirty plus years of service with the State of Maryland Division of Correction. Due to the management style of the top administration, dictatorial leadership, disregard for real Public Safety and employee safety and an outright display of elitism, my resignation is effective close of business, Thursday, June 30, 2005.

I wish to thank especially my staff at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown inclusive of my custody staff and all departmental staff. My two years as your Warden were really my two most enjoyable years of my career. You people have a lot of class, talent and are just basically good individuals. It has been my pleasure to have been associated with each of you. We had a lot of rough times but we also developed a good working atmosphere and had some really great times. I'll miss you.

In closing let me state that I can compromise on strategies but never on my principles. Please keep me in your thoughts as I think of you each day.

Joseph P. Sacchet
Warden at MCI-H
