Lions Club celebrates 74th year of service

June 07, 2005

BOONSBORO - The Boonsboro Lions Club celebrated its 74th year of community service at its annual charter night gathering in May.

During the evening scholarships were awarded to Kristy Bittner and Haley Burtner, both of whom are graduating this year from Boonsboro High School and plan to attend Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Other highlights of the evening included commentary and music by Gail Snyder and the presentation of the Lion of the Year Award by Lion President Ed Itnyre to Nelson Baker. The award recognized Baker's role in managing the health equipment loan program, chairing the membership committee and his service on the Funk Memorial Fund finance committee.

The Boonsboro Lions Charter, which had been missing for many years, was returned by James McGlothin, who found it between some floor joists in a house at 316 N. Main St.
