180 cartons of cigarettes stolen


About 180 cartons of cigarettes were found missing this morning from Food Lion in Smithsburg after police received a report that the grocery store's burglary alarm went off, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

When police arrived at the grocery store, at 22401 Jefferson Blvd., just west of Md. 66, at about 4 a.m., they found the front doors pried open, according to the release.

Marlboro, Winston and other name brand cigarettes were found missing, police said.

The grocery store places stickers on cartons that identify the store and which month the cartons were received, according to the release.

Police ask anyone with information on the burglary to call them at 301-739-2101.

On Saturday:

· At 4:51 a.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 1000 block of Lindsay Lane. James Colby Bachtell, 30, was charged with second-degree assault.

· At 8:11 a.m., flowers were reported removed from planters in the first block of South Potomac Street.

· At 8:25 a.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of Doub Way.

· At 12:56 p.m., a bicycle was reported stolen in the first block of Snyder Avenue.

· At 3:22 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 1000 block of Wesel Boulevard. It was a verbal argument only.

· At 9:30 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 500 block of Frederick Street. It was a verbal argument only.

· At 9:30 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 400 block of West Washington Street. Christopher Winfield Albright, 49, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

· At 10 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the first block of South Locust Street. It was a verbal argument only.

· At 10:20 p.m., a purse was reported stolen in the 600 block of Salem Avenue.

On Sunday:

· At 12:58 a.m., a stabbing was reported at Barracuda's Surf Bar.

· At 1:28 a.m., an alleged assault was reported in the area of West Antietam Street and South Burhans Boulevard.

· At 1:29 a.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the first block of East Washington Street.

· At 5:09 a.m., an alleged sexual assault was reported in the first block of Randolph Avenue.

· At 9:32 a.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of West Church Street.

· At 11:56 a.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the first block of Wakefield Road.

· At 7:41 p.m., cash and a coat were reported stolen in the 700 block of West Washington Street.

· At noon, an animal bite was reported in the 800 block of Georgia Avenue.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls since Monday, Sgt. Mark Knight said:

· At 9 a.m., a home under construction was reported damaged in the 13800 block of Ideal Circle.

· At 9 a.m., a tailgate was reported stolen off of a truck parked in the 17500 block of York Road. The tailgate had an estimated value of $300.

· At 5 p.m., a bicycle was reported stolen from a residence in the 19100 block of Long Meadow Road.

· At 7:30 p.m., a purse was reported stolen from a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire parked in the 600 block of Valley Road.

· At 8 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported in the 12000 block of Lauran Road. No arrests were made.

· At 10 p.m., breaking and entering was reported at Our Daughter's Variety Shop, at 42 N. Conococheague St. in Williamsport. About $200 in cash was reported missing.

· At 10:30 p.m., alleged domestic violence was reported at Williamsport Sunoco, at 30 E. Potomac St.

· At 3:40 p.m., an accident involving a Chevrolet truck and a Toyota was reported in front of Williamsport High School. An ambulance was called. The Chevrolet truck was determined to be the at-fault vehicle.

Woman charged with stealing wallet


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough police have charged a Chambersburg woman with stealing the wallet of a patient at Chambersburg Hospital and then using the victim's credit cards.

Police said Sharelle Wallace, 18, of 100 Sunset Ave., Apt. B, was charged with theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

Police allege Wallace stole the wallet on Sunday afternoon, May 30, from the patient's purse while Wallace was visiting her mother, who was a patient in the same room. Wallace allegedly used the woman's credit cards to purchase gas and cigarettes at two convenience stores, police said.

Quarters reported stolen from Pa. home


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - State quarters worth several hundred dollars were stolen from a borough home Saturday, according to Chambersburg police.

The house in the 800 block of Brandon Drive was forcibly entered between 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., police said.
