Land preservation, parks document draft is released

The Washington County Department of Planning and Community Development has released a draft of the 2005 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan for Washington County for a 60-day public review and comment period.

The draft document provides an inventory of protected lands and parks and recommends guidelines for development of parks and land preservation in Washington County over the next six years.

Copies of the draft plan are available for review at all branches of the Washington County Free Library, on the internet from a link on the Washington County home page, at the county parks department, in Doub's Woods Park, at the recreation department, in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center at Hagerstown Community College, and at the planning commission office in the county administrative annex at 80 West Baltimore St., between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Comments will be accepted in writing until July 15, and should be submitted to the Washington County Department of Planning and Community Development, County Administrative Annex, or in person at one of three public comment meetings during June.


Each meeting begins at 7 p.m. Meeting dates and locations are:

· Wednesday, June 8, at the Eugene C. Smith Community Center, in Boonsboro's Shafer Park.

· Wednesday, June 15, at the Washington County Recreation Department in room 220A of Hagerstown Community College's ARCC.

· Wednesday, June 22, at the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co., on Mulberry Street, in Clear Spring
