"Sometimes I don't understand people. They holler about the price of gas and believe me it's high because I remember when gas was 25 cents a gallon. They complain about the price of gas and then when there's something that moves in that tries to do something to lower the price of gas and lower our dependence on it they vote against us. This ethanol plant in the township in Pennsylvania may be part of the answer to our problem and I don't understand that. I know people don't want things like that next door to them but where else are they going to put them and how else are we going to leave our dependence on gas behind?"

"I was wondering if The Herald-Mail would be interested in doing a story about the effect of mandatory overtime on the work force, perhaps covering how it affects family relationships, how it affects their morale and how it affects their physical health. Maybe they can interview psychiatrists. I work for a major corporation that is working us mandatory overtime. The laws in this country need to be changed so that doesn't happen. We have been working 60 hours a week and we are mentally exhausted and we are just accidents waiting to happen."

"I'd like to say thanks and good wishes to all the boys and girls who are serving in the war. We hope and pray for them and we hope they all come home safe and on a day like today we thank God for all of them and I'd also like to say that we care so much about all the bad kids out there. The kids that do all the things that are wrong, but nobody ever says anything about the millions of good kids out there. I think those good kids deserve a pat on the back and I'd like to give it to them."

"Please, enough about Kobe. I'm tired of hearing it."

"I would like to thank the St. Patrick's chorale and the sponsors for the wonderful musical program and tribute to the Vietnam Veterans. This was held on Saturday, May 28."

- Hagerstown

"I attended Williamsport United Methodist Church this Sunday and wanted to thank them for a warm meaningful and true recognition of veterans. I felt welcomed into this family. I will be back. God bless you and God bless America."

"I read many comments by callers who are disturbed by the local 4-wheelers in their neighborhood. I understand your torment, we live in Cascade, and believe me, we have 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers and they range in age from eight to 38. It's ridiculous that parents would buy that kind of vehicle for children and not provide an appropriate place for them to ride them. Here they ride on the street, day or not, with no lights on, which of course is illegal and ride summer and winter. All day long riding up and down the streets making it impossible for cars to pass."

"I would like the Department of Natural Resources policing their boats on the Potomac River to mark any obstruction in the middle of the Potomac River above Dam 5. There are numerous obstacles that are very serious in increasing the odds of having a boating accident. I would like the DNR to please mark them or pull them out, that would even be better. Please pull them out instead of counting life jackets on every boat that goes by. Please DNR, takes this and run with it. It would be good for your public relations."

"I'd like to respond to the letter asking about Betts playing in Washington County. Yes he's playing this Saturday, June 4, at the North American Gun Club outdoor pavilion. It's Betts from the Allman Brothers and Great Southern. Tickets benefit the American Cancer Society and they are $25 apiece and gates open at 5 and show is at 8."

"What's the difference between the Vietnam war and the Iraqi war? President Bush had a plan for getting out of the Vietnam war."

- Smithsburg

"My comment is concerning the street sweepers. Perhaps the people who are complaining that they need a street sweeper in their neighborhood they could get together with their neighbors and sweep their own sidewalks and pick up their own trash. Hagerstown would make a better appearance for any visitors coming through."

- Washington County

"I have just heard a Memorial Day program that has helped me realize how great it is to live in America. To all those that have been criticizing our president for our country's involvement in Iraq, please remember that freedom is not free, someone has to pay for it. If our military forces had not fought in previous wars to help our country and keep our country from being invaded, like the country we were helping, you and I would not be calling in with our comments. A dictator would not permit this. Think about it."
