County schools to take part in emergency drill

June 01, 2005

Washington County Public Schools will participate in an emergency drill today from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Washington County Department of Emergency Services, in partnership with the school system and the City of Hagerstown, are sponsoring the drill in the area surrounding North Hagerstown High, Northern Middle and Fountaindale Elementary schools. The drill gives emergency responders in the city, county, and school system a chance to practice coordination of emergency services and communication, according to press releases from the city, county and school system.

Paul Rudolph, schools safety and security specialist, said the scenario will involve some sort of simulated accident. Students and staff will remain in school during the drill and will not be in any danger from the drill.

There will be command or special operations vehicles at the schools as part of the drill.
