SANDY HOOK - An 87-year-old Brunswick, Md., man died after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in southern Washington County, just north of the Potomac River, according to Maryland State Police.

The crash was reported just after 3 p.m. on eastbound U.S. 340 at Keep Tryst Road, police said.

Police said a 2001 Daewoo, driven by Frank A. Miglio, 87, of Sixth Avenue, and a 1996 Honda, driven by Daniel C. Nusbaum, 20, of Diamond Drive in Walkersville, Md., collided in the intersection. The impact "totaled" both vehicles, said Trooper 1st Class George Fockler, the crash's investigating officer.

Fockler said late Wednesday that Miglio received severe injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital. Fockler said Miglio was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Fockler said Miglio drove his car into oncoming traffic.

"He did stop (at a flashing red signal). However, he proceeded into the intersection and someone T-boned him," Fockler said.

Nusbaum, who also was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, was treated and later released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Fockler said U.S. 340 was closed to traffic for about an hour while troopers investigated and debris was removed from the road.
