May 22, 2005

Sharrett Volkswagen, 1333 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, will be hosting a stop on the Herbie & Friends Cruise Across America tour on Wednesday, May 25, at the dealership.

The tour, which started May 13 in Ventura, Calif., marks the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Volkswagen of America, Inc. Also, Karmann Ghia Club of North America is celebrating 50 years of the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, and Disney Corporation is marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of Disneyland and also the June 24 release of the new movie, "Herbie: Fully Loaded."

About 50 vehicles, many of them Karmann Ghias, are expected to stop at Sharrett. There will also be an original "Herbie" movie car on hand. Several Disney movies have featured Herbie, a vintage VW Beetle with a mind of his own. The latest Herbie movie will star Lindsay Lohan, Justin Long and Breckin Meyer with Matt Dillon and Michael Keaton.
