Two students win credit union scholarships

Two Bulldog Federal Credit Union members have been awarded $500 scholarship gifts by credit union President and Scholarship Selection Committee Chairman David Barrett.

Scholarship winners are Katherine H. Brady of Smithsburg High School and Zachary W. Hoopes of Waynesboro (Pa.) Area Senior High School.

Brady, the daughter of Linda and Richard Brady Jr., is graduating second in her class of 180 with a 4.26 grade-point average. She will attend St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City, Md., where she will major in mathematics and physics in pursuit of a career as a theoretical research mathematician for NASA.

Hoopes, the son of Katrina and William Hoopes, will attend Columbia University in New York City. Hoopes, who will graduate second in his class of 263 with a 4.24 grade-point average, will major in history and plans to pursue a career in history education at the college level.

Bulldog Federal Credit Union awards the scholarships each year to a male and female student who display high scholastic achievement and character and involvement in extracurricular and community activities, among other criteria.
