The Herald-Mail asked each of the candidates five questions. Candidates were instructed to limit their answers to each question to 100 words. Answers of more than 100 words were edited.
Candidates also were instructed to return their responses by 5 p.m. on April 27. All but two of the candidates met that deadline. Republican Scott Hesse missed the deadline by almost 48 hours, returning his answers at 2:20 p.m. on April 29. Republican Haru Carter missed the deadline by nearly one week, returning his responses at 8:30 p.m. on May 3.
