Suns trapped by Tourists

May 06, 2005

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Hagerstown Suns can't seem to stand prosperity on the road.

Once again, the Suns rallied from an early deficit. Once again, they gave away the lead in the final innings to lose.

Hagerstown rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a four-run lead, only to give it away in the ninth inning and lose 8-7 to the Asheville Tourists in the 10th Thursday as the closers failed to get the job done.

The loss dropped the Suns (18-9) into a tie with Lexington for the South Atlantic League North Division lead as Hagerstown fell to 5-7 on the road.

The Suns came back from a 3-1 deficit in the seventh inning by sending 10 men to the plate and scoring five runs and got a solo home run by Grant Psomas in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.

Asheville came back with four runs in the ninth off Marcelo Perez after an error by shortstop Wilson Batista loaded the bases. The Tourists used a two-run throwing error by second baseman Ryan Coultas and a double to tie the score at 7-7.

Coultas bobbled a double-play grounder in the 10th that would have gotten the Suns out of the inning to allow the winning run to score against Carlos Muniz (2-2).

Psomas had two hits while Dante Brinkley reached base safely for the 25th straight game for the Suns.
