Roundup - Cougars blank 'Roaders in key Antietam game

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jen Kelly hit a three-run home run in Catoctin's four-run sixth inning and Alicia Brandenburg tossed a one-hit shutout as the No. 3 Cougars blanked No. 4 Brunswick 4-0 in an MVAL Antietam showdown on Monday.

Brandenburg struck out seven and added an RBI single to move Catoctin (13-2, 11-1) back in sole possession of first place in the conference.

Carly Epley had the only hit for Brunswick (13-2, 11-2), while Hillary Remsburg struck out five.

No. 6 St. John's-PH 24, Grace 13

FREDERICK, Md. - Down 13-11 after three innings, St. John's at Prospect Hall exploded for 13 runs in the fourth inning to defeat Grace Academy.

Rachel Miller had four hits and scored four runs and Kristie Forcade and Brittany Sigler each had three hits for SJPH (13-1). Forcade had a triple.


Rebecca Morgan had three hits and scored three runs and Amber Knuckles had three hits, including a triple, and four RBI for Grace Academy (2-7).

No. 7 Williamsport 6, Clear Spring 4

WILLIAMSPORT - Emily Huff pitched a complete-game one-hitter, allowing two earned runs while striking out seven and walking eight for Williamsport in an MVAL Antietam win over Clear Spring.

Huff added two RBI for the Wildcats (12-4, 11-3), while Jessica Patey had two hits and Heather Taylor hit a solo home run.

No. 8 Waynesboro 14, West Perry 5

ELLIOTTSBURG, Pa. - Paige Tanner and Karey Toms each had three hits and Amanda Redano added two as Waynesboro rolled to a Mid-Penn Colonial win over West Perry.

Tanner, who was a home run short of the cycle, drove in three runs, while Erin Keller added a bases-loaded double for the Maidens (11-4, 8-3). Jenna Bakner added two-run triple.


No. 2 Chambersburg 13, Red Land 3

LEWISBERRY, Pa. - Andrew Burke had three hits and three RBI as Chambersburg defeated Red Land (5-12, 3-8) in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth game.

Brian Massimilla added two hits and three RBI for the Trojans (11-4, 9-2), who had 12 hits. Kyle Helm added two hits.

Notre Dame 11, No. 2 Jefferson 1

MIDDLEBURG, Va. - Anthony Sosnoskie pitched a no-hitter and allowed only two men to reach base as Notre Dame Academy thumped Jefferson.

Joe Wilt reached on an infield error in the third inning and scored on a groundout by David Smith for the only run for Jefferson (20-5).

No. 4 Williamsport 14 Clear Spring 4

WILLIAMSPORT - Tyler Beard had four hits and Williamsport pounded Clear Spring in the MVAL Antietam.

Corey Broadwater added three hits and two RBI for the Wildcats (15-2, 11-2) who had a six-run first inning. David Warrenfeltz and Phillip Jordan each had two hits and drove in two runs.

Billy Bucklew had two hits and three RBI for the Blazers, while Cody McCarty had two hits.

No. 5 Waynesboro 7, West Perry 4

WAYNESBORO - Scott Livengood hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and Waynesboro broke a 4-4 tie to defeat West Perry in the Mid-Penn Colonial.

Nathan Minnich hit a two-run single to tie the game earlier in the inning, before Livengood's blast sealed the game for the Indians (11-5, 8-3). Corey Livengood struck out seven in a complete-game win.

No. 9 Musselman 6, Hampshire 2

INWOOD, W.Va. - Brad Mason had three hits, including a double, and pitched a complete game to lead Musselman over Hampshire.

Mark Darlington and A.D. Elliott each had two hits for Musselman (11-7), which broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run fourth inning.

Goretti 15, Hancock 1

HANCOCK - St. Maria Goretti pounded out three homers - one each by Tim Kellinger, Chris Dorsey and John Widmyer - in a 10-run-rule win over Hancock.

Dorsey had three hits and Kellinger had two as Goretti (9-8) pounded out 13 hits to back the two-hit pitching of Sean Engle.

Brunswick 6, Catoctin 2

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Josh Via drove in three runs and Brunswick capitalized on 13 walks to pull out a win over Catoctin in the MVAL Antietam.

Aaron Main had an RBI double in the first inning - one of three hits for the Railroaders (9-7, 7-5) - while Justen Smith pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out five.

Tony Hall had two hits for the Cougars.

Urbana 6, Middletown 2

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Ryan Brandenburg and Mike LeFever each had two hits to lead Urbana past Middletown.

LeFever homered and Brandenburg drove in three runs for the Hawks (11-5, 7-5).

Wes Bidle led Middletown (5-12, 5-9) with two hits and Kris Wrieden added an RBI single.

Potomac Falls 3, Hedgesville 2

STERLING, Va. - Ross Pedersen had two hits and an RBI, but Hedgesville fell short against Potmac Falls.

The Eagles (14-10) loaded the bases in the seventh inning before they were shut down by Potomac Falls.

Justin Everhart drove in a run for Hedgesville.

Fannett-Metal 11, Southern Fulton 1

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. - Darren Gipe homered and Fannett-Metal scored in every inning en route to a victory over Southern Fulton in the Sideling Hill League.

Adam Miller singled home the lone run for the Indians (3-10, 2-9).
