A Hedgesville, W.Va., woman who was hospitalized after a head-on collision Thursday night near Hagerstown remains in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
Sharon Dawn Buck-Ahrens, orchestra manager of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after her 1995 Volvo station wagon collided with a 2002 Ford Focus on Interstate 70.
The driver of the Ford, Autumn Cheree Mendoza, 23, died in the accident. Mendoza's 1-year-old son, Christian Domingo Mendoza, was not seriously injured, police said.
Two other women were in a Kia Optima that swerved to avoid the accident. They were treated at Washington County Hospital and released, a spokesperson said.
