A taste for food ingredients could win you $50

Do you know what's in the food you eat? The Herald-Mail Co. will award $50 to the person who can correctly name the food product that matches each of the following 10 ingredient lists. Ingredients are listed just about how they appear on specific products - minus information in parentheses - so be specific with your answers.

Here are some other rules:

- Herald-Mail employees and their relatives are not eligible to participate.

- The individual who correctly names the most products will win.

- If there's a tie, one winner will be drawn randomly from those who qualify.

- Entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, May 6. Mail your answers with your full name, address and daytime phone number to Lifestyle ingredients contest, P.O. Box 439, Hagers-town, MD 21741, or bring your answers to 100 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown, or send your answers via e-mail to lifestyle@herald-mail.com.

A photograph of and interview with the winner, along with the correct answers, will be published in an upcoming Food section.

The 10 items contain the following:

1. Apples, water and ascorbic acid

2. Pork head meat, pork jowls, pork hearts, pork tongues, pork liver, pork kidneys, pork sweetbreads, beef, cooked ox- tails, salt, pepper, spices

3. Sugar, peanut oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, reduced minerals whey, partially hydrogenated peanut oil, soy lecithin, vanillin

4. Tomato puree, distilled vinegar, corn syrup, salt, raisin paste, crushed orange puree, spices and herbs, dried garlic and onion, caramel color, potassium sorbate, xanthan gum

5. Dried potatoes, vegetable oil, wheat starch, maltodextrin, salt, dextrose

6. Canola oil, grain alcohol, soy lecithin, propellant

7. Corn syrup solids, vegetable oil, sodium caseinate, dipotassium phosphate, sodium aluminosilicate, mono- and diglycerides, artificial flavor, annatto color

8. Water, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, apricots, vinegar, modified cornstarch, salt, spices, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, sulfur dioxide

9. Citric acid, salt, modified cornstarch, Red 40, calcium phosphate, artificial flavor, natural flavor, BHA, Blue 1

10. Sugar, enriched flour, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, cocoa, high fructose corn syrup, baking soda, cornstarch, salt, soy lecithin, vanillin, chocolate
