Police say string of Pa. break-ins might be linked

April 26, 2005

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police and Chambersburg police are investigating a series of weekend commercial burglaries that might be linked.

Because of the time of the break-ins and the methods used, "We're certainly looking at the possibility that they are related," Chambersburg Detective Sgt. Dianne Kelso said Monday. Borough police had been in contact with state police about the incidents, she said.

In each case, the front-door glass or window was broken to gain entry, according to the police reports. The burglaries all occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning, police said.

The incidents include:

· Between 1 and 8 a.m. Sunday, state police said two businesses at the West Side Plaza Shopping Center, 875 Lincoln Way West - China One and West Side Cleaners - were broken into and a small amount of cash was stolen.

· Sunday at 2:56 a.m., a window was smashed at La Guadalupana Mexican Store, 2138 Lincoln Way East, state police said. The burglars were confronted by the owner and fled west on Lincoln Way East, police said.

· Between 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, Caretti's Pizza, 2625 Philadelphia Ave., had its front-door glass smashed and $90 stolen, police said.

· Chambersburg police said Assante's Pizza, 299 Southgate Mall, was broken into and $150 stolen between 12:30 and 8:16 a.m.

· China Buffet, 1009 Wayne Ave., had its front-door glass smashed between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:40 a.m. Sunday, but the business was not entered, borough police said.

· State police also said Solomon's United Church of Christ, 1571 Swamp Fox Road, was broken into between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9:09 a.m. Sunday, but gave no other details.

Anyone with information about any of the burglaries may call state police at 717-265-5161 or Chambersburg police at 717-264-4131.
