BEAVER CREEK - More than 1,600 Allegheny Energy customers were without power Saturday starting about 5:30 p.m. because of an equipment failure on a utility pole, a company spokeswoman said.
Affected areas included Beaver Creek, San Mar and South Mountain, said Marilyn Davin, Allegheny spokeswoman.
She said crews were expected to have the problem corrected and power resumed "hopefully by early (this) morning."
A spokesman at Washington County Emergency Services said the absence of a traffic light due to the outage at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Md. 66 resulted in a three-vehicle accident.
No serious injuries were reported.
