Hancock Indoor Guard team earns honors

April 24, 2005

HANCOCK - In mid-March, Hancock Middle-Senior High School's Indoor Guard team journeyed to Westminster, Md., for the Maryland State Indoor Championships. Its members didn't come back empty-handed.

For the second year in a row, the guard earned the championship title, according to Erica Sherrill, who leads the group along with Michelle Barsh, band director.

The 10 members, who are in grades seven to 12, performed a 41/2-minute choreographed show titled "7th Inning Stretch." The music included "Who's On First," "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "We Will Rock You."

For the competitions, guard members used a variety of equipment, such as flags and rifles, to portray the baseball game on a floor cover that looks like a baseball field, complete with a standing brick outfield wall.
