Three students sustain minor injuries in wreck

April 23, 2005

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Three Jefferson High School students had minor injuries Friday morning after their car ran a stop sign and was hit by a pickup truck, according to police.

Sgt. G.F. Stevens of the Charles Town Police Department investigated the accident, which happened at 7:23 a.m. at the intersection of East First Avenue and North Mildred Street.

Five students were on their way to school in a Pontiac Grand Am when the driver of the car ran a stop sign. The driver told police that she did not see the sign, which partially was obscured by a tree branch, Stevens said.

After running through the sign, the passenger side of the car was hit by a Toyota pickup truck, Stevens said.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the accident, which caused traffic to be blocked for around 30 minutes.

No citations were issued.

Officers with the Ranson (W.Va.) Police Department, along with volunteers from several county fire departments, assisted at the scene, Stevens said.
