Roundup - Jefferson rallies for 11th straight win

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Ryland Newman scored the game-winning run on an RBI single by Jonathan Hash as No. 3 Jefferson stunned Notre Dame Academy 3-2 for its 11th straight win.

David Smith hit a two-out, two-strike infield single in the bottom of the seventh and later scored on an RBI double by Will Grantham to tie the game at 1-1 and force extra innings.

After Notre Dame (15-9) regained the lead in the eighth, the Cougars (16-3) answered with a leadoff double by Josh Simons. Devin Terris came in as a pinch runner, moved to third on a single by Brian Collins and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gage Levac to tie the game at 2-2. Newman came in to run for Collins and scored when Hash poked a single to right.

Simons scattered 10 hits over eight innings, fanning nine and walking one to improve to 4-0. Simons also finished with three hits, while Smith added two.

C. Dauphin 2, No. 1 Chambersburg 1


HARRISBURG, Pa. - Central Dauphin scored both of its runs in the fourth inning when a fly ball to center was misplayed, and the Rams handed Chambersburg its first Mid-Penn Commonwealth loss.

The Trojans (8-2, 6-1) came back in the fifth with an RBI single by Brian Massimilla, but suffered from leaving runners on the base in the loss. Andrew Burke had two hits. Jared Olson went the distance, struck out 10 and walked one.

No. 2 Frederick 9, Linganore 2


NEW MARKET, Md. - Billy Gross scattered five hits and struck out 13 as Frederick beat Linganore in the MVAL Chesapeake to remain undefeated.

Gross, Cory Rhodes and Tommy Gillmore each had two hits for the Cadets (12-0, 8-0). Rhodes and Mike Herald each drove in two runs.

Corey Nicholson homered for Linganore.

C.D. East 11, No. 5 Waynesboro 2


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Central Dauphin East kept Waynesboro sliding by pounding out 15 hits. The Indians fell to 5-5.

No. 9 Williamsport 14, Brunswick 2


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Derek Hadley had four hits and Tyler Beard added three as Williamsport rolled to an MVAL Antietam win over Brunswick (6-6, 4-4).

David Warrenfeltz, Corey Broadwater and Matt Sweigert each added two hits for the Wildcats. Phillip Jordan allowed three hits and struck out six for the win.

Catoctin 11, South 9


Catoctin scored eight runs in the second inning to take the lead for good as the Cougars knocked off South Hagerstown in the MVAL Antietam.

J.J. Myers led the Rebels (2-7, 2-7) with two hits.

Tuscarora 15, Goretti 9


Jon Burks and Brandon Whipp each homered and Spencer Barrick had three hits to lead Tuscarora past St. Maria Goretti.

Kevin Brashears had three hits, including two home runs, and four RBI for the Gaels (7-6). Sean Engle belted a three-run home run and P.J. Donoghue added three hits.

John Carroll 5, St. John's-PH 3


FREDERICK, Md. - Scott Ritter had two hits and drove in a run, but St. John's at Prospect Hall fell to John Carroll.

Middletown 3, South Carroll 1


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Chase Wolf allowed four hits and struck out 16 to lead the Knights past South Carroll in the MVAL Piedmont.

Kevin Murphy and Jake Atherly each had two hits for Middletown (3-9, 3-6).

No. 4 Brunswick 6, Williamsport 5


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Megan Epley went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and Carly Epley went 2-for-4 with a two-run double as Brunswick edged Williamsport in the MVAL Antietam.

Brandy Lapole and winning pitcher Hillary Remsburg (6-1) each added two hits for Brunswick (9-1, 7-1).

Adrienne Munoz and Catie Vancour each had two hits and an RBI for Williamsport (7-4, 6-3).

No. 8 Martinsburg 5, Mercersburg 2


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lexi Rodgers homered and pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Martinsburg (10-4) topped Mercersburg Academy.

Cree Riley had two hits and an RBI for Mercersburg (5-3).

No. 10 Waynesboro 5, C.D. East 4


HARRISBURG, Pa. - Jesse Miller had four hits, while Kristy Young and Jenna Bakner each added two as Waynesboro edged Central Dauphin East.

Bakner also scored the game-winning run on a single by Paige Tanner in the sixth. Kristin Hess struck out seven for the Maidens (7-2).

Boonsboro 4, North 2


Boonsboro took advantage of an error to plate three runs in the sixth inning as the Warriors knocked off North Hagerstown in the MVAL Antietam.

Samantha Frew struck out seven and Jessie Ambrose had two hits for Boonsboro (3-7, 3-6).

Kelly Toms had two hits to lead the Hubs (2-9, 2-7).

Smithsburg 15, Clear Spring 5


SMITHSBURG - Julie Weaver, Teonna Jewell and Dana Diehl each had two hits to lead Smithsburg past Clear Spring in the MVAL Antietam.

Diehl scattered five hits over six innings in the win for the Leopards (3-7, 2-7).

Hancock 11, St. James 1


HANCOCK - Winning pitcher Adrienne Kesecker struck out seven and added three hits and four RBI at the plate to lead Hancock past St. James.

Katie Golden had three hits, while Nina Chiaruttini and Mindy Ruppenthal each added two for the Panthers (4-6). Chiaruttini drove in two runs.

Heather Lowery homered for St. James.
