Street repair work set to begin soon

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Repair work on several borough streets will get under way in the next few weeks after the Waynesboro Borough Council awards bids for the work. The target date for completion is Aug. 1.

The council Wednesday authorized Borough Manager Lloyd Hamberger to apply for a $1.3 million loan, to be repaid over 10 years, from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank, an arm of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The current interest rate is below 3 percent, Hamberger said. "We need to jump on this," he said.

Streets scheduled for repair work are Park Street from Ninth Street to the end; Ridge Avenue from Third Street to Fourth Street; West Second Street from Cleveland Avenue to Hamilton Avenue; and all of Homewood Avenue.

The developer, Brim Builders of Chambersburg, Pa., is working the project through the permit process, Kevin Grubbs, head of borough engineering, told the council Wednesday night.

Entrances into the development will be off State Hill and Welty Road.

The council has to hold the hearing before it can vote on final approval of the project.
