April 21, 2005

A number of local residents were among the graduates from the two most recent Natural Resources Police training programs since the consolidation of the NRP and the Maryland Park Service rangers.

Graduating Monday in ceremonies at Wye Mills, Md., were Gerard Bond, Mount Airy, Md.; Meredith Brenneman, Boonsboro; Richard Doney, Sabillasville; Scott Forrest, Clear Spring; Robert Haney, Williamsport; David Lowman, Thurmont, Md.; and Brenda Rohrback, Big Pool.

The class that graduated in February included Brian Albert, Big Pool; Russell Boback, Smithsburg; Jeffrey Herndon and Cedric Poole, Clear Spring; and Angela Hummer, Boonsboro.

The consolidation, which took effect Jan. 1, is aimed at increasing state government efficiency and eliminating redundancies, according to Cpl. Ken Turner, an agency spokesman.

The combined organization will continue to ensure the public's safety as well as enforce a broader variety of laws and regulations covering boating, wildlife, parks, fishing and resource protection.
