New county worker introduced


Washington County Human Resources Director Dee Hawbaker introduced a new employee to the County Commissioners on Tuesday.

Stephanie Snow is an office associate in the Planning Department.




May 14 is proclaimed County Reading Day


The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday proclaimed May 14 as Washington County Reading Day.

The Partners in Literacy Committee, a subcommittee of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, will hold the 2005 Washington County Reading Day Fair - "Stop, Drop and Read" - on May 14 at Robinwood Medical Center, according to information included with the commissioners' meeting agenda.

The goal of the program is to raise awareness of literacy issues. The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature Avi, an award-winning author, local authors, food, a book giveaway and other activities.

The commissioners agreed unanimously to contribute $1,000 toward the event.
