Janet L. Horst, 76

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Janet L. Horst, 76, of 2992 Warm Spring Road, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late W. Ambrose and Esther C. Cordell Swope.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Enos E. Horst.

She and her husband owned and operated a farm.

She was a member of St. James United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by five children, Roy M. Horst, Kaye D. Ricker and Joseph B. Horst, all of Chambersburg, Steve A. Horst of Waynesboro and Clay A. Horst of Frederick, Md.; four sisters, Nancy Davis and Virginia Eberly, both of Chambersburg, Judy Hoch of Harrisburg, Pa., and Linda Shatzer of St. Thomas, Pa.; four brothers, William Swope, Gerald Swope and Wayne Swope, all of Chambersburg, and Raymond Swope of Mercersburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Helen Swope; two brothers, Harold and Glenn Swope; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Pastor Murray Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Stanley A. Butz, 89

JULY 26, 1915-APRIL 17, 2005

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Stanley Andrew Butz, 89, of Chambersburg, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Providence Manor after a long illness.

Born July 26, 1915, in Greenwald, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Bunda Butz.

He started Modern Home Appliance Co. in Chambersburg with his three brothers.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring.

He was an accomplished, self-taught amateur golfer, winning the Club Championship title at Chambersburg Country Club eight times over four decades, and in his later years, the Senior Club Championship.

He had been a member of Chambersburg Rotary Club, and was a member of Chambersburg Club and Chambersburg Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Moss Butz; one daughter, Cathy LaJoe of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three sons, Sam of Chambersburg, Michael of Bethlehem, Pa., and Joseph of Newport, R.I.; one sister, Helen Pfefferle of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring. The Rev. Dr. William H. Harter and the Rev. Linda B. Harter will officiate. Private burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home.

Robert E. Brown, 68

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Robert E. Brown, 68, of 10787 Coral Ridge Road, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born July 20, 1936, in South Mountain, he was the son of Earl Brown of South Mountain and Lillian Ressler Gorman of Chambersburg, Pa.

He attended school in South Mountain.

His wife, Helen A. Weaver Brown, whom he married Aug. 16, 1958, died Oct. 31, 1990.

He retired in 1986 from South Mountain Restoration Center, where he was employed as a cook.

He was a member of Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra R. Spoonhour of South Mountain; eight sisters, Esther Kauffman of Gettysburg, Pa., Betty Wade of Cascade, Della Nieves of McSherrystown, Pa., Linda Roberts of Zullinger, Pa., Bonnie Noll of Waynesboro, and Shirley Chidboy, Darlene Brown and Donna Green, all of South Mountain; five brothers, Ronald Brown of Fairfield, Pa., Roy Brown of Chambersburg, and Carl Brown, Gary Brown and William Brown, all of South Mountain; one granddaughter; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Brown and Eugene Brown.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor C. Roy Daywalt will officiate. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara A. Highlands, 45

CLEAR SPRING - Barbara Ann Highlands, 45, of 12040 Big Pool Road, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at her home.

Born March 7, 1960, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Frances Shearer Highlands and Larry Highlands Sr. of Shippensburg, Pa.

She was a 1978 graduate of Cumberland Valley Christian School in Chambersburg.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Open Door Church in Chambersburg.
