Roundup - Greencastle's Signore fires no-hitter

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Sarah Signore threw her first seven-inning perfect game of the year and drove in the lone run as No. 5 Greencastle defeated Boiling Springs, 1-0, taking over sole possession of first place in the Mid-Penn Capital.

Signore, who had thrown a four-inning perfect game earlier, drove in Brittany Main in the sixth inning with a groundout. Main had tripled.

Signore struck out 17 batters as Greencastle (9-1, 7-0) took a one-game lead over the Bubblers (8-2, 6-1).

No. 2 Catoctin 15, Smithsburg 1

SMITHSBURG - Jenn Kelly hit two solo home runs and Catoctin used eight singles and two Smithsburg errors for an 11-run third inning en route to a MVAL Antietam victory.

Kelly homered in the second and fifth innings. Brittany Brown and Ashley Lenhart had three hits each for the Cougars.

Candace Stanford had an RBI double for Smithsburg (2-7, 1-7).

No. 7 B. Springs 11-10, E. Hardy 7-4

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Amanda Waltman struck out 13 and allowed one earned run for Berkeley Springs in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of East Hardy.


Allison Buzzerd, Amanda Bowers, Jessica Vanorsdale and Waltman each had two hits for the Indians in the opener.

Sam Zahnow struck out eight in the nightcap while Sarah Risinger, Waltman, Vanorsdale and Buzzerd each added two hits for the Indians.

No. 10 Waynesboro 6, Shippensburg 4

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Kristi Young led Waynesboro with two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to help Waynesboro beat Shippensburg (8-2, 5-1) in the Mid-Penn Colonial.

Kristin Hess struck out nine batters for the Maidens (6-2, 5-1) while Amanda Redano had two hits.

South 3, Boonsboro 1

Jamie Fowler allowed three hits and struck out seven as South (5-3, 5-3) clipped Boonsboro in MVAL Antietam action.

Shunika Hamilton, Brianne Hammond and Brittany Hyatt each had two hits for South. Hyatt had a triple.

Williamsport 12, North 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Jessica Batey went 4-for-4, including a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning, to lead Williamsport to a MVAL Antietam victory over North Hagerstown.

Batey added an RBI double in the Wildcats' eight-run sixth which helped finish the game after six innings.

Beth Ryan went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for Williamsport (7-3, 6-2) whil Ashley Kunkelman had two hits.

Lauren Lewis doubled and scored North's only run.

Brunswick 14, Clear Spring 2

CLEAR SPRING - Megan Epley's grand slam keyed a 10-run fifth inning as Brunswick closed out an MVAL Antietam victory over Clear Spring via the 10-run rule.

Epley also had two doubles for the Railroaders (8-1, 6-1), while Brandy Lapole added three hits and Amber MacIntosh, Carley Eply and Hillery Remsburg added two hits each.


No. 1 Chambersburg 7, C. Valley 2

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Andrew Burke, Josh Frey, Austin McNew and Zach Frelin each had first-inning RBI for Chambersburg as it scored five times on the way to a win over Cumberland Valley (6-2, 4-2) in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth.

Burke also pitched a strong game for the Trojans, striking out 11. Josh Truman added two hits for the Trojans (8-1, 6-0).

No. 2 Frederick 7, Walkersville 4

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Billy Gross had two hits and drove in two runs to help Frederick stay undefeated.

Cory Rhodes and Austin Vesper each added two hits for the Cadets (11-0) while Kyle Myers struck out four batters.

Tyler Redick and Matt Sanchez each had two hits for the Lions (7-4).

L. Valley 7-11, No. 4 Musselman 0-4

PURCELLVILLE, Va. - Justin Combs had two hits including a two-run home run for Musselman in the second game of it's doubleheader against Loudoun Valley.

Brad Mason also had a two-run shot for the Applemen in the nightcap.

In the opening game, Mark Darlington struck out seven and had two hits for the Applemen (7-3) while Joey Pletcher also had two hits.

Shippensburg 6, No. 5 Waynesboro 5

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Waynesboro took an early 4-0 lead, fell behind and regained the lead in the top of the seventh and then lost to Shippensburg on a fielding error.

Nathan Minnich had a two-run home for Waynesboro (5-4, 3-3) in the first inning in the Mid-Penn battle.

No. 7 Greencastle 14, Boiling Springs 5

BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. - Jared Barkdoll had a grand slam to help power Greencastle past Boiling Springs in the Mid-Penn Capital Division.

Jeff Fisher and Corey Briggs each added two hits and two RBI for the Blue Devils (6-4, 5-2). Adam Wiestling and Nick Schreiber each had two hits for Greencastle.

St. Maria Goretti 10, Hancock 0

David Plank had two hits and drove in two runs for St. Maria Goretti. Plank allowed one hit while striking out eight.

Kevin Brashears added a two-run double for the Gaels (7-5).

Kenny Clark had the Panthers' only hit.

Archbishop Curley 25, St. John's-PH 8

BALTIMORE - Nick Schultz had two hits and three RBI for St. John's at Prospect Hall as it fell to Archbishop Curley.

Scott Ritter had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings while Robin Cochran had two hits.

Catoctin 12, Smithsburg 5
