Workaday world in photographs

April 18, 2005

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Horizon Goodwill Industries is sponsoring a "Believe in the Power of Work" photography contest.

Goodwill is looking for photographs that illustrate the power of work in your home, school, community or family. Judges will look for dynamic photos that tell a story about how work has the power to transform lives and to strengthen communities, families and individuals.

Award winning photographs will be used as part of a traveling photo exhibit designed to help people better understand Goodwill's mission. The exhibit will be unveiled at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Deadline for the submission of photos will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 31. There will be three categories: Youth/student, amateur and professional. Submitted photos must be no larger than 8 inches by 10 inches and no smaller than 5 inches by 7 inches, and can be color or black and white. Entries must be submitted by mail or dropped off at Horizon's Corporate Center, 14515 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. No faxed or e-mailed photos will be accepted. Digital cameras may be used but an actual print must be submitted. Prizes will be announced at a later date and will be awarded during the reception on July 21. To receive entry forms, rules and guidelines, go to www.horizongoodwill.org on the Web, or call and leave a message at 301-733-7330, ext. 113.
