Sales are under way for townhome development

Prospective home buyers are invited to visit Fairchild Heights, where R & J Builders has opened sales in a second group of new three-level townhomes. The development has a prime location, near Route 11 and convenient to primary roads and to schools.

Each home includes a garage on the lower level. Large living rooms and country kitchens are just the beginning. Prices will start in the $220,000's.

Floor plan variations range from finished recreation rooms on the lower level, to vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom, with morning rooms and sunrooms in some units.

Exteriors are of maintenance-free vinyl siding, with colors professionally coordinated. Some homes will have half-brick fronts.

A lower-level entry plan expands living space on the main level for some units. Each home has a deck in the rear with steps and white vinyl low-maintenance railings. Sidewalks and driveways are concrete.

Three bedrooms are standard; two full baths - one is a super bath - one or two half baths, and laundry hook-ups on the bedroom level provide convenience. The kitchen includes GE appliances; the owner may choose colors for appliances, flooring, and countertops, and there is a selection of cabinet styles available.

Phone wiring is Cat5, and TV connections are prewired. As to decor, the homes have six-panel colonial doors, and oak stair and hand rails. In some rooms floors may be upgraded to hardwood or ceramic tile.

Foundations have been poured for the new group of homes, and R & J Builders expects delivery in August. The company adds a six-month walk-through inspection to the pre-settlement checkout of each home. R & J brings more than 30 years of experience in residential construction to their Fairchild Heights project. The true test of a home's quality, according to R & J officials, lies with the builder's personal attention to detail and hands-on management.

R & J Builders' current projects include Mountain Shadows in the Smithsburg area; the Twin Lakes development in Gettysburg, Fairchild Heights in Hagerstown, and several custom homes through the area.

The Fairchild Heights model home at 901 Mercer St. will be open on weekends from noon to 4 p.m.
