mail call from 4-15

April 18, 2005

"To the person who has the crocheting needles. Please call 301-733-6292. Otterbein Church has started a Senior Enrichment Program and we could use the items. Thanks"

"If you went to work with a drunken hangover, they should have fired you, not commend you for showing up on time."

- Washington County

"I would like to know when something will be done about the railroad tracks on Hopewell Road. They are terrible. The bolts are not holding down the boards and some are just lying there. They have been like this for months and they need to be fixed. Can someone help?"

- Washington County

"Wake up, citizens of Hagerstown. The ice rink board has encouraged 30 students to leave the rink and travel as far as Johnstown to skate. Citizens of Hagerstown, they apparently don't want the revenue from these skaters which the rink needs badly. As citizens of Hagerstown and your tax dollars at stake, you need to investigate what is really going on. Is it politics or something else? Demand to know the facts."

"God's words say in Ephesians 1:17 that the Lord God Jesus Christ gives you the spirit, wisdom and revelation to know Him better."

- Washington County

"I was really sorry to see the Mail Caller who got the reason for 9/11 wrong once again. Saddam Hussein did not attack the United States. The Iraqi people and Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11. The president sent our troops in to danger and now more than 1,530 have been killed for nothing. It certainly had nothing to do with 9/11; 9/11 and Iraq had nothing to do with each other."

- Fairplay

"In response to the person who wrote that it was an insult to the pope's funeral for Clinton to attend. I would like to respond by saying at least Clinton's hanky-panky in the office was nothing compared to the death of thousands of U.S. soldiers based on a war that was wrong. At least when Clinton was president he pulled our soldiers out of Somalia after they were burned and attacked in the streets. President Bush has yet to do anything like this or even apologize for a war that is being fought for the wrong reasons."

- Winchester, Va.

"To the person from Boonsboro, there is a VA representative downtown at 33 W. Washington St. on Tuesdays. You can also call him at 1-800-446-4926."

"I'd like to say that if Washington County Hospital is moved to Robinwood I think that some people ought to get together and see if they can't get the old hospital as a veterans hospital."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"This is in response to the person that questioned the morality of Mr. Clinton going to show his respect for the pope. He or she needs to remember that Christ died for sinners such as Bill Clinton, for each one of us. Evidentally this man has never sinned or has no sin in his life, that's wonderful."

- Washington County

"Come on, Dick Trump, stop with the 'git er done' stuff. We are not a bunch of hillbillies."

"I was wondering if anybody got their children's elementary school class picture back recently. When we received our son's, the class picture is tinted red. We paid $10 for these and everybody looks red. The little girls that have blond hair and the little boys that have blond hair look like they have red hair."

"I just want to say that in regards to the person who said to change South Cannon Avenue to Willie Mays Way, I think that is really ridiculous. To the other one who said we owe Willie Mays something, I think that is ridiculous, too. I think all the streets should stay the same."

- Hagerstown

"I find it very interesting that in 1953 the Washington Senators agreed to allow the American League team into his region, paving the way for the then St. Louis Browns to become the now Baltimore Orioles the following season. Good deeds are not always reciprocated. A half century later, Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos has done everything possible to block a team from moving to Washington and to make their life difficult."

- Halfway

"Willie Mays this and Willie Mays that. It's simple, name the stadium Willie Mays Stadium. It's so simple - all problems solved."

- Washington County

"In answer to a question in Mail Call about where the gas is going from the Alaska pipeline. It is either sold or given to Japan, China or anybody that wants it other than us poor individuals at home that need it. Let's get the right thing going here about our gas situation. It really should be for the American people, not for other people."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to address this to the person that is worried about Willie Mays coming back and seeing his name removed from the Memorial Boulevard sign. My opinion is Willie Mays will not be back until he's paid again like he was the first time he visited here. He's like all the rest of the professional ball players. They don't do anything unless they are paid. Please leave the Memorial sign to the men that gave their lives to our country so we may be free."

- Washington County
