Power surge, end Suns' run

April 15, 2005

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - There's no place like home.

The Hagerstown Suns left the friendly confines of Muncipal Stadium and suffered their first loss of the year Thursday as errors and mistakes led to an 8-3 loss to the West Virgina Power.

The Power successfully opened Charleston's new Appalachian Power Park in front of an overflow crowd for their first win of the season.

The Suns (7-1) got solo home runs from Dante Brinkley in the first and Wilson Batista in the third, but couldn't overcome the Power's four-run first inning aganst starter Jeff Landing (1-1).

William Lewis keyed the first-inning rally with a bases-loaded double to pit West Virginia starter Derek DeCarlo (1-0).

Grant Psomas led the Suns with three hits while also driving in their final run in the sixth with a double.

West Virginia, which was swept in Hagerstown last week, was led by Hernan Iribarren with three hits.
