Synagogue celebrates choir

April 14, 2005

More than 100 members and guests joined together Saturday, April 9, at B'nai Abraham Synagogue to honor its choir.

The choir, as guests of the evening, were treated to a musical presentation by Cantor Susan Berkson and one of her students, Jeffrey Reibman.

The program included a repertoire of jazz, musical theater, Israeli and Jewish liturgical compositions.

Berkson is from Hagerstown. Her father, Jacob Berkson, and grandfather, Meyer Berkson, had sung in the B'nai Abraham choir.

Following the musical program, Allen Seidman, president of B'nai Abraham, spoke of the wonderful gift of music that the choir brings to the Sabbath service. Seidman presented gifts of appreciation to organist Marge Peacher and choir director Jan Aaland. Each choir member was presented with a photo of the choir.

The evening concluded with a catered buffet and a comic skit.
