Area roundup - Brandenburg overpowers Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT - Alecia Brandenburg hit a three-run homer and pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as No. 3 Catoctin blanked Williamsport 11-0 in five innings in MVAL Antietam action Monday.

Sara Wastler added three hits for the Cougars (6-1, 5-0), while Brittany Brown had two.

Williamsport falls to 4-3 (2-3).

St. John's-PH 13, Grace 2

Kate Kersey pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts as St. John's at Prospect Hall blanked Grace Academy (2-1) in five innings to remain unbeaten.

Kersey also had two hits and scored three runs, while Jennifer Kim went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs and Kristi Fourcade had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings (8-0).

No. 3 Brunswick 12, Boonsboro 2

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Winning pitcher Hillary Remsberg struck out eight and added three hits at the plate to lead Brunswick past Boonsboro in the MVAL Antietam.


Megan Epley, Carly Epley and Lucy Shankle each added two hits for the Railroaders (6-0, 4-0). Carly Epley also drove in three runs.

No. 5 Greencastle 8, Trinity 0

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Sarah Signore threw a three-hitter with 16 striekouts while walking none and added two RBI as the Blue Devils rolled past Trinity.

Maxie George and Michele Oberholzer each drove in a run for Greencastle (5-1, 3-0 Mid-Penn Capital).

Clear Spring 12, North Hagerstown 11

Maggie Wolford, Krysta Scriever and Christine Mehaffie each had two hits as Clear Spring (1-6, 1-3) edged North Hagerstown in MVAL Antietam action.

Brooke Powell led North with three hits.

Northern Bedford 5, Southern Fulton 3

LOYSBURG, Pa. - After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, Southern Fulton rallied for three runs in the fourth, but was turned away by Northern Bedford in a Sideling Hill League loss.

Courtney Trainor had the game's only extra-base hit - a run-scoring double in the fourth - for the Indians (1-4, 1-3). Barb Grabosky added a two-run single in the loss.

Tussey Mountain 16, McConnellsburg 9

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Trisha Seiders hit a grand slam and Sarah Paylor had four hits, but it wasn't enough for the Spartans (3-3, 0-3), who committed 11 errors in the Sideling Hill League loss.

Waynesboro 8, Northern 5

DILLSBURG, Pa. - Kristin Hess struck out eight and allowed no earned runs as Waynesboro beat Northern York in Mid-Penn Colonial action.

Jessie Miller had two hits for the Maidens (4-1, 4-0), while Paige Tanner drove in a run.


No. 1 Chambersburg 9, Carlisle 3

CARLISLE, Pa. - Andrew Burke had a career-high 16 strikeouts as Chambersburg beat Carlisle (4-2, 2-2) in Mid-Penn Commonwealth action.

Burke (3-0) also had a big day at the plate with three hits, including a two-run homer, and three RBI.

Austin McNew and Austin Dansberger each drove in two runs for the Trojans (5-1, 3-0).

No. 2 Frederick 14, North Carroll 5

HAMPSTEAD, Md. - Billy Gross had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and five RBI as Frederick rolled past North Carroll in the MVAL Chesapeake to remain undefeated.

Cory Rhodes, Wes Gross, Matt Kalmore, Tommy Gillmore, Brent Dehaven and Patrick Desmond each had two hits for the Cadets (7-0, 5-0), who piled up 19 hits in the win. Gillmore drove in three runs.

Northern 9, No. 3 Waynesboro 4

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro surrendered seven walks, a hit batsman and committed three errors in falling to Northern in the Mid-Penn Colonial - the Indians' first loss of the season.

Northern took advantage of four free passes in the seventh inning, leading to five runs and a comfortable 9-2 cushion.

Andrew Caron went 4-for-4 and Ryan Chaney added two hits for the Indians (4-1, 3-1).

John Lerew, Chad Halterman and Corey Betz each had two hits for Northern.

No. 6 Musselman 4, No. 4 Hedgesville 2

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Sean Whittington hit the game-winning two-run single in the top of the seventh to lift Mussleman past Hedgesville and keep the Applemen unbeaten.

Whittington's game-winner came after Hedgesville's Ross Pederson tied the game with an RBI double in the sixth. Mark Darlington pitched a hitless seventh for the save.

Brad Mason allowed two hits and struck out six and Joey Pletcher had three hits for Musselman (6-0).

Josh Mumaw fanned 14 in the complete-game loss for the Eagles (8-6).

No. 6 Williamsport 12, Catoctin 2

WILLIAMSPORT - Aerik Taylor threw a five-inning three-hitter with five strikeouts and doubled, tripled, scored three runs and drove in three to lead the Wildcats over the Cougars in the MVAL Antietam.

David Warrenfeltz had two hits, drove in two and scored two runs, while Corey Itnyre had two hits and drove in two for Williamsport (8-1, 4-1). Catoctin falls to 4-4, 2-3.

Trinity 7, No. 8 Greencastle 5

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Adam Wiestling hit a grand slam for Greencastle (4-2, 2-1) but the Blue Devils' seventh-inning rally against Trinity fell short in a Mid-Penn Capital loss.

Brunswick 6, No. 9 Boonsboro 3

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Pat Curry launched a two-run homer in the second inning to lift Brunswick past Boonsboro in the MVAL Antietam.

Andrew Derr added two hits for the Railroaders (4-4, 2-2).
