Edgin pitches and hits Blue Storm over Hill School

Mercersburg Academy 7, Hill School 5

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Winning pitcher Josh Edgin pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning Sunday to lift Mercersburg Academy to a MAPL victory over The Hill School.

Edgin, who gave the Blue Storm (3-0, 1-0) a 6-2 lead with his homer, finished with four RBI and allowed three walks and two earned runs.

Garrett Fix had two hits and an RBI while Ryan colby had two hit. Josh Davis added a two-run homer in the third for Mercersburg.

Martinsburg 8, Berkeley Springs 5

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Martinsburg sent 10 hitters to the plate in a error-plagued five-run fifth inning to erase a 5-2 deficit Saturday to pull out a win over Berkeley Springs.


Brandon Armentrout came on in relief for the Bulldogs (6-4) and surrendered a three-run home run to stake the Indians (0-4) to the lead before rallying for the victory.

Armentrout struck out seven in his four innings of relief and added a two-run home run for the Bulldogs.

Martinsburg hosts St. Maria Goretti tonight at 5 in another of its special events nights at P.O. Faulkner Park.

Jefferson 15-17, Pendleton County 1-1

KEYSER, W.Va. - Gage Levac unloaded a bases-loaded double to highlight Jefferson's 12-run fourth inning Saturday to lift the Cougars to a victory in the opener of a sweep of Pendleton County, the defending West Virginia Class A champions, in a doubleheader played at Potomac State College.

Brendan Mclaughlin had three hits and drove in two runs - to finish with five hits and four RBI for the doubleheader - as the Cougars (9-3) scored eight runs in the fifth to ice the nightcap by the 10-run rule.

David Smith, Josh Simons and Joe Wilt also had two hits each for Jefferson. Wilt also drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, Ryan Collins and Corie Gustines had three hits and Richie Nelson added two hits for the Cougars. Collins and Nelson each drove in two runs.

Maret 17-12, St. James 5-1

ST. JAMES - Jimmy Sutch, Alex Bust, Nate Vendetta and Mike Siegel each had two hits in the first game of St. James doubleheader sweep at the hands of Maret on Saturday.


Fairmont 16, Shepherd 5

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - Fairmont State came up with 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to overpower Shepherd University Sunday in a WVIAC game.

The Falcons scored seven in the fifth and three in the sixth as part of a 17-hit attack against five Shepherd pitchers.

Collin Brown had two hits while scoring a run and driving in another to lead the Rams (12-14, 6-3) while Dirk Webb, of Hedgesville, W.Va., added two hits and two RBI.


CSM 1-0, HCC 0-6

LA PLATA, Md. - Casey Woods allowed just seven hits in 10 innings as Hagerstown Community College split a doubleheader with the College of Southern Maryland. Jess Stough had four hits for the day, while Cherrae Freeman went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles for the Hawks.
