Man wanted for failing to register

An arrest warrant has been issued for a man required to register as a child sex offender whose last known address is in Hagerstown, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Charles L. Reynard Jr., 45, whose last known address is 125 N. Prospect St., failed to notify the Sex Offender Registry Unit of an address change, deputies said.

Deputies said Reynard was convicted in 1997 in Montgomery County, Md., of child abuse involving a 12-year-old. He is required to register any address changes with the unit.

Three charged in DVD thefts at Target

HALFWAY - Three Williamsport residents have been charged in connection with the theft of a large number of DVDs from Target on Cole Road, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

Tammy Marie Mahoney, 36, Charles Gregory Stickell, 28, and Everett Dale Barrick, 37, all of 168 N. Conocoheague St., Apt. 12, were charged with theft more than $500, according to deputies.

Deputies allege the three were seen stealing large amounts of movies from the store Tuesday. Deputies said police cruisers blocked the vehicle the three were traveling in so it couldn't leave the parking lot.

Deputies allege they had been involved in several previous thefts at Target this year.

Passenger in fatal crash 'conscious'

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Trooper M. Gordon of the Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said Thursday he spoke with the 14-year-old passenger who was hospitalized following a fiery Wednesday evening crash that claimed the life of the driver.

Gordon said the boy was "conscious and talking." Gordon declined to release the boy's name saying police policy prohibits it in accidents involving juveniles.

The boy was flown to a hospital in Altoona, Pa., police said.

Carlos B. Shifflett, 47, of Old 126 in Warfordsburg, Pa., was killed in the 6:15 p.m. one-car crash, police said.

According to police, Shifflett's 1993 Mazda drifted off the south side of the road, hit a rocky drainage culvert and a tree before stopping in an embankment.

Police said a witness pulled Shifflett from the vehicle and the boy crawled out of a window as the car caught fire.

Shifflett was pronounced dead by Fulton County Coroner Daryl Heckman, police said.

The accident occurred on Old 126 in Brush Creek Township.
