McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania man died and his teenage passenger was injured as a result of a fiery single-vehicle crash on Old 126 in Brush Creek Township Wednesday, a Pennsylvania State Police dispatcher said.

The boy was flown to a hospital and was expected to survive his injuries, the dispatcher said.

The crash was reported at about 6:15 p.m., according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

Police said that Carlos B. Shifflett, 47, of Old 126 in Warfordsburg, Pa., died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

A 14-year-old who was not identified was flown to Altoona (Pa.) Hospital.

The boy's condition was not released late Wednesday.

Police said Shifflett's 1993 Mazda drifted off the south side of the road and struck a rocky drainage culvert and a tree before coming to rest in an embankment. A witness pulled Shifflett from the vehicle and the boy crawled out of a window before the Mazda erupted into flames.

Shifflett was pronounced dead by Fulton County Coroner Daryl Heckman, police said. Heckman determined Shifflett died of blunt force trauma.
