Condolences can be sent electronically

April 06, 2005|by DANIEL J. SERNOVITZ

People mourning the death of Pope John Paul II can send condolences to the Vatican through an electronic guest book being compiled by a group of funeral homes, including Minnich Funeral Home on East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown.

Through its host site, FuneralNet.com, Minnich has posted information, including the obituary and a memorial guest book on its Web site, www.minnichfh.com.

Visitors to the site can sign the book through May 2, when it will be sent to the Vatican along with entries compiled by about 100 other funeral homes participating through FuneralNet. The book will be available for viewing through May 2.

Minnich Manager Bob Rankin said that while he compiles online guest books for many of his clients, and printed books that people can sign for national and international figures such as President Reagan, this is the first time the funeral home has compiled an Internet guest book for a national or international figure.
