Mail Call

April 06, 2005

"I was really overwhelmed by the incredible callousness of some of the lawyers and judges on the eve of Terri Schiavo's tragic death. The sheer hypocrisy of these right-to-die people was quite revealing. Forcing Terri to die by court order is a shining example of a heartless judicial system here in our own country. My heart goes out to the Schindlers in their grief."

- Franklin County, Pa.

"Concerning the Terri Schiavo matter. I can tell you that this is judicial murder. Everyone in this country should be sickened and disgusted and ashamed. This country is absolutely doomed and people just don't recognize it."

- Hagerstown

"To Rachael and Dean of Williamsport who own Byers River Grocery, I wanted to tell both of them how pleasant and nice they are and there is a 'hi' and a smile when you walk in the store from them. I add they have a dear daughter and a dear son. Keep up the good work."

- Williamsport

"I can tell you why our gas prices are so high, look who's running our country, the oilmen."

- Washington County

"The deer checkers do not look at the deer. I have an idea of a dual system, a combination of the old and new. Don't pay the deer checking stations, ask them to volunteer and see which way the hunters prefer."

- Washington County

"The stink coming from Hagerstown's sewage plant is unbearable. I wish the EPA would fine Hagerstown $10,000 a day. Someone needs to straighten out that mess. Please do something because it stinks."

- Washington County

"We went on the Web site for the sex offenders and found out that we have a child molester that lives right down the street from us. It was very unsettling to find that out and I'm sure there are other people who go on that site and find out that there are sex offenders living all over the area. I just wanted somebody to know that."

- Hagerstown

"One way to get rid of unsolicited mail solicitations is to stuff everything that came in the envelope back in to the prepaid envelope with a note saying remove me from your list immediately. It may not work. They will certainly waste their time and fill up their landfills since everyone seems so intent on wasting our time and filling up our landfills with useless junk that they are trying to sell us."

- Hagerstown

"It's really funny but everybody I know keeps whining about the high price of gas but they still have money for beer and cigarettes. Imagine that."

- Dargan

"Ask your assistant pastor what the importance is of going to church for prayer or getting dressed up real neat. Obviously, he doesn't know what the real reason is. I would go somewhere else."

"I'm commenting on the sex abusers and child molesters and I know of a few that have gotten jail time but then they got to move back with their family. I don't see where the judge did his job by moving the sex offender right back with their family when he done it to them before. To me once a sex offender, always a sex offender."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to make a comment about people talking on their cell phones, all the yap yap about it. It's like the buzz that keeps on chirping all night long and all night long and finally someone rolled out of bed and had enough and squished it. It's time we did something about this."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"Isn't it odd that the Board of Education which is always begging for more and more money has enough money to mail out its annual report to all the taxpayers? I don't want my tax dollar being spent on them tooting their own horn."

- Washington County

"Can somebody please explain to me why I have to pay a $2.50 restoration fee for my water bill each month and for how long? I am on a fixed income, Washington County has already struck us with water and sewer debt. Where are all of our tax monies going? I wanted to vote Republican but now that has changed."

"I do not agree with changing Memorial Boulevard to Willie Mays Way. He was not a resident of Hagerstown. He just played a little bit of ball here. He does not deserve to have a name in our town on a street. It may have been nice when he was here that time to honor him just to give him a title on that street. Our veterans are the ones that fought in this country and gave their life so that's the one that needs it - Memorial Boulevard not Willie Mays Way."

- Hagerstown

"Turning into Williamsport on Virginia Avenue, there is a yield sign on your right as you approach McDonald's. Does anyone coming off that ramp from the highway realize that you must yield to the oncoming traffic on your left? These drivers don't even bother to slow down and weave into traffic when safe. What is it going to take to slow down and obey the traffic signs? They are there for a reason."
