SMITHSBURG - During the month of March, the Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 87 calls for service, according to Capt. James Ulrich.
Of those 87 calls for March, 13 were to Frederick County and four were to Franklin County.
Sixteen calls were in the Smithsburg town limits, while another eight each were in the Hagerstown and Leitersburg areas, and four were to Cascade
The most common calls were for vehicle/pedestrian accidents and chest pain, which accounted for 20 calls. The department also assisted on four fire-related calls during March.
Personnel transported 49 patients to area hospitals during the month.
