Frances V. McCullough, 81


JULY 15, 1923-APRIL 4, 2005

Frances Viola McCullough, 81, of 135 Broadway, Hagerstown, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 15, 1923, in Charlton, Md., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mazie Moore Shupp.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald E. Baker, in 1962.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary and Moose International.

She is survived by her husband, Wilson S. McCullough; one son, Donald W. Baker of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Mary A. Roof of Germantown, Md.; one stepson, John R. McCullough of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Evelyn Mason of Williamsport and Mary C. Lumm of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Preston Shupp, Paul K. Shupp, William S. Shupp and John S. Shupp.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Eleanor G. McLaughlin, 78


JAN. 22, 1927-APRIL 5, 2005

Eleanor Grace McLaughlin, 78, formerly of 11222 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 22, 1927, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Grace Wimmer Thompson.

She was employed by Pittsburgh Paint and Glass Co.

She was a Baptist.

She is survived by one sister, Libby Mayberry of Lockeford, Calif.; two nieces, Connie Summers and Carol Wible, both of Hagerstown; three grandnieces; and one grandnephew.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Letitia Short.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.




Violet M. Beck, 90


FEB. 19, 1915-APRIL 5, 2005

Mrs. Violet Mae (Fleagle) Schildt Beck, 90, of 18013 Par Three Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died at 12:41 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, in the emergency room of Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 19, 1915, near Smithsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jacob E. and Bertha P. (Deal) Fleagle. She lived her early life in the Smithsburg area.

Mrs. Beck attended Blue Mountain School.

She and her first husband, the late Charles H. Schildt, were married on Aug. 30, 1932, in Boonsboro, Md. Mr. Schildt died Jan. 9, 1995. She married her second husband, the late Rev. Harold C. Beck, on Oct. 26, 1996, in Sharpsburg, Md. They moved to their present residence in November 2003. The Rev. Beck died on Nov. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Beck was a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Mill for more than 20 years.

She was a member of Blue Mountain Church of God and the Adult Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Beck enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce E. Shockey of Smithsburg, and Wilma M. Holloway and Arlene Montgomery, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Earl E. Schildt of Red Lion, Pa., Donald C. Schildt of Washington, Ill., and Paul D. Schildt of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Marlene D. Beck of Bakerton, W.Va.; one stepson, Duane L. Beck of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Ada J. Shatzer of Smithsburg, Ruth G. Reynolds of Waynesboro, Pa., and Betty J. Rowe of Smithsburg; one brother, Theodore W. Fleagle of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Jacob Schildt; three sisters, Lorraine Brown, Irene Fleagle and Naomi Wilhide; and seven brothers, Lloyd Fleagle, Vernon Fleagle, Leon Fleagle, Daniel Fleagle, Donald Fleagle, Wayne Fleagle and Leroy Fleagle.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Mary E. Crampton officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Richard P. Lease, 54

Richard Phillip Lease, 54, of Hagerstown, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at his home.

Born Aug. 5, 1950, in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of Martha Duda Lease of Rockville, Md., and the late Phillip Richard Lease.

He retired as postmaster of the Sharpsburg Post Office after 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

He attended Paramount Brethren in Christ Church in Hagerstown.
