Small Business Administration

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -The U.S. Small Business Administration will host two workshops on its Community Express loan guarantee program on Wednesday in the Eastern Panhandle.

The first workshop will be at 9 a.m. at the Community and Technical College of Shepherd's Small Business Development Center at 400 W. Stephen St. in Martinsburg. The second will be at 6 p.m. at the Clarion Conference Center at 233 Lowe Drive in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

The Community Express program provides unsecured business loans of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000. The loan requires no collateral, tax returns, business plans or personal/business financial statements. Loans are funded for a seven-year period with no prepayment penalty and have a variable interest rate of prime plus 4.75 percent.

A packaging fee of $475 is required, which is refundable if the loan is not approved. Applicants must have a business license and be a for-profit business. Documentation to apply for a loan include a copy of the applicant's driver's license, federal tax ID or Social Security number, a business check and a green card if a registered alien.


The workshops are free, and loan applications for the Community Express program will be taken.

Summit Surgery Center

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Summit Surgery Center recently achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

To achieve this status, the Summit Surgery Center passed a series of nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by the Accreditation Association. More than 1,900 ambulatory health-care organizations across the United States are accredited by the association.

The Summit Surgery Center is a joint venture between area surgeons and Chambersburg Hospital.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Sunrise Electronic Distributing Co. (digitalSunrise) recently was named a Hewlett-Packard All-Star for the Northeast for the fourth quarter of 2004.

The award recognizes the top 10 percent of all HP partners for their customer satisfaction and operational performance.
