The Herald-Mail


Linda Duffield has been named associate editor of The Herald-Mail.

In this capacity, Duffield will be in charge of the newsroom in the absence of the executive editor. She also will coordinate all weekend news coverage, along with the Sunday business section, special publications, town pages and supervising/training a core group of reporters. Joining The Herald-Mail in 1987 as a Sunday editor after an eight-year stint with the Associated Press, Duffield was promoted to managing editor of The Morning Herald in 1995.

Also, in packaging and distribution, Javier Mays and Kevin Myers have joined the staff as part-time inserters.

Celebrating milestone anniversaries with the company in April are Marlene Russell, assistant to the publisher, 45 years; Larry Yanos, Daily Mail sports editor, 40 years; Terry Conrad, pressroom, 35 years; Larry Curry; night pressroom foreman, 25 years; and Kathy Baker, information technology, 15 years.




Washington County Commission on Aging


Milissa A. Sibley recently joined the long-term care ombudsman program at the Washington County Commission on Aging.

Sibley has more than 12 years of nursing experience in addition to long-term care experience and holds a degree in gerontology. She is a 2003 graduate of Wingate (N.C.) University.




Shippensburg University


SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -Rick Ruth, vice president for information technologies and services at Shippensburg University, has been named the university's interim provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Ruth was appointed vice president for information technologies and services in June 2002, and also served as interim provost from August 2000 to June 2002. Previously, he served seven years as associate provost for academic planning and resources management.




Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Cara Sheaffer recently joined the staff of the Chambersburg office of Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA as a sales associate.

Sheaffer attended pre-licensing courses at the Institute of Real Estate Studies in Waynesboro, Pa.

Sheaffer has 21 years of experience in marketing and is the owner of Advanced Marketing Solutions.




Wright-Gardner Insurance


Tony Valentine of Wright-Gardner Insurance recently became a State Auto PaceSetter agent.

The PaceSetter program is provided by State Auto to form sales/marketing partnerships with State Auto agents to improve customer service.




Edward Jones


Joan Bowers, an Edward Jones investment representative in Hagerstown, recently was named a field trainer for the firm.

In her new role, Bowers will work with groups of new Edward Jones investment representatives for several months to help them through their training and while they build their businesses.

Bowers also has achieved the professional designation of accredited asset management specialist.

Bowers earned the designation by completing the Accredited Asset Management Specialist professional education program offered by the College for Financial Planning.




Hagerstown Medical Laboratory


Toni Antonelli and Lateisia Summers, cytotechnologists, and Dr. John Newby, Dr. Chris Dempsher, Dr. Gary Mire, Dr. Sherol Clarke and Dr. Michael O'Donoghue, pathologists, of Hagerstown Medical Laboratory, all received a score of 100 percent on the Maryland State Cytology Proficiency Testing Program Examination.

The examination evaluates the ability of individuals to examine a slide and render a correct diagnosis from a pap smear.




Coldwell Banker


Suzanne Glocker of the Hagerstown office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage recently was recognized as one of the company's top agents among all NRT Coldwell Banker sales associates in 2004.

Glocker ranked eighth in the country in total units, and ranked first in the region in units. She also ranks first in total volume and total units in Washington County.

Glocker was recognized during the recent International Business Conference in Orlando, Fla.

Tina Fleetwood, Kim Lee and Janet Marquiss recently attended the annual convention of Senior Photographers International in St. Pete Beach, Fla.

The convention was attended by more than 600 photographers nationwide who specialize in high school senior portraits.

Candice Wagaman, sales manager with Weekenders USA, and her unit won the company's Silver Circle of Excellence award with sales of $678,000 in 2004.

Wagaman also was recognized as a Bronze National Incentive Winner for sales and sponsorship at the company's spring national conference in Dallas.

Weekenders USA is an international direct sales women's clothing company.




Canaan Valley Institute


MIDDLETOWN, Md. -Jared Bartley recently joined the Middletown office of Canaan Valley Institute.

Bartley spent the last two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador.

Bartley received a bachelor's degree in geological sciences from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
