The Christians

Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Christian of Falling Waters, W.Va., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 12, 2005, at a reception at their home, hosted by their daughter, Maxine Christian-Jaouhari of Alexandria, Va., a grandson, and a close friend, Claudia Ruoff.

One of the Christians' two sons, Larry and his wife Angie Christian of Mitchellville, Md., attended the reception along with many friends. Their other son, Ken and his wife Julia Christian of Albuquerque, N.M., did not attend.

The Christians were married Feb. 12, 1945, in Upper Marlboro, Md., after a six-week courtship. They both were serving in the U.S. Navy at the time.

The Burgers

Vivian "Sis" and Winton "Pete" I. Burger of Point Salem Road celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Gibbles Restaurant in Greencastle, Pa. The event was hosted by their children.


The Burgers were married Feb. 10, 1945, at United Brethren in Christ Church by the late Rev. F. Berry Plummer.

Mrs. Burger is the daughter of the late Ruth and Russell Cullison. She worked at Hagerstown Hosiery and the Airway Diner.

Mr. Burger is the son of the late Francis Ward and Charles Burger. He worked at Beachley Furniture Co., Hagerstown Shoe Factory and Fairchild Aircraft.

The Burgers were the original owners and business partners of Pete's Transfer & Storage, a moving company agent for American Red Ball, which they operated from 1944 until 1983.

They have eight children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
