Shots fired at officer during pursuit that began in Greencastle

April 02, 2005

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - There was a police pursuit Friday night that originated in Greencastle and continued into Washington County with reports of shots fired at an officer, but no one was injured.

Greencastle Police Department Acting Chief Craig Wagner said late Friday that Pennsylvania State Police would be assisting in the investigation, but the details of what happened were not yet clear.

Wagner said no one was injured and the vehicle police had pursued had been lost.

Police departments in Maryland were issuing lookouts for the vehicle said to be involved in the incident.

Washington County Sheriff's Department Cpl. Daniel Faith said the Franklin County, Pa., dispatch office had given his department a description of the car, which was said to be an older, gray-primer colored Chevrolet Nova with West Virginia license plates.

Faith said the Pennsylvania dispatcher told his department the Greencastle officer had tried to stop the Chevrolet for failure to stop at a sign, and someone fired two shots toward the police officer.
