Road work expected to create detours


Work crews will begin pavement milling and repair operations Tuesday at 7 a.m. on West Washington Street near Park Avenue, according to a press release from the City of Hagerstown.

Work will proceed eastward to West Antietam Street and Summit Avenue. No parking signs will be posted on West Washington Street, according to the release.

A portion of West Antietam Street between Summit Avenue and Walnut Street might be temporarily closed to all traffic on Wednesday or Thursday. Traffic temporarily will be detoured around the work area while repairs are being performed. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by Friday, according to the release.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zones on West Washington Street and the portion of Antietam Street to the west of Walnut Street. Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the work zone on West Antietam Street between Summit Avenue and Walnut Street while the street is closed at that location, according to the release.

Recreation facilities offer family discounts


Family Bonus Cards are available from the City of Hagerstown's Parks and Recreation Department, according to a press release from the City of Hagerstown.

The card is $5 and entitles families to discounts at participating facilities, according to the release.

Participating facilities include Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run, Claude M. Potterfield Pool, Skate Park at Fairgrounds Park and Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex.

The cards may be purchased at the City of Hagerstown's Parks and Recreation Department at 51 W. Memorial Blvd. or at any of the participating facilities.

Yard waste collection resumes Wednesday


The City of Hagerstown yard waste collection program will resume Wednesday will run through Dec. 7, according to a press release from the City of Hagerstown.

Yard waste should be placed at curbside anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesdays for Wednesday morning collection.

Yard waste must be in reusable containers (garbage cans, bins) or approved paper yard waste bags or leaf bags.

Yard waste collection includes leaves, grass clippings, branches and small sticks. Residents are required to bundle branches and sticks in lengths of 3 feet or less and no larger than 2 inches in diameter.

Golf course closing for work on greens


The City of Hagerstown's Department of Parks and Recreation recently announced that the Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run golf course, at 2 S. Cleveland Ave, will close April 11 and April 12 to thatch, aerate, verti-cut, topdress, seed and fertilize the greens.

Rain dates are April 18 and 19.
