Man, 50, found dead today

A 50-year-old man was found dead lying underneath some stairs at an old loading dock on Sycamore Street near Summit Avenue this morning, Hagerstown Police Department Detective Sgt. Paul Kifer said.

The man, who appeared to have died of natural causes, was found at 6:30 a.m., he said. The man, whose name is not being released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead by a state deputy medical examiner, Kifer said.

Man charged after police chase

A Poolesville, Md., man who was stopped by police for allegedly speeding in Frederick, Md., this morning, led authorities on a chase in and out of Washington County before his dump truck was stopped by stop sticks on Braddock Mountain, the Frederick Police Department said in a news release.

Parris Eugene Mason, 38, of 14771 Sugarland Road in Poolesville, was charged with three counts of speeding, speed greater than reasonable, failure to display license and registration, driver giving false name to a police officer, fleeing and eluding, reckless and negligent driving, driving on a suspended license, failure to obey a lawful order and resisting arrest.


At 4:05 a.m., Mason, who was driving an International dump truck, was stopped by an officer with the Frederick Police Department on U.S. 40 westbound near Bowers Road for alleged speeding violations, according to the release.

Police learned Mason was wanted in a Frederick County Sheriff's Department warrant for allegedly passing bad checks and ordered Mason out of the truck. He allegedly drove off instead, according to the release.

Officers from Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff's Department joined in pursuing the truck, which was driven west on Interstate 70 to the Boonsboro exit, where the dump truck turned around and went east on I-70, police said.

On I-70, near the area of the west slope of Braddock Mountain, the truck struck stop sticks and its front tire was flattened, according to the release.

Mason was taken into custody and was transported to Frederick County Central Booking, where he was awaiting processing and an appearance before a District Court commissioner, police said.

Two Va. men face charges

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two Manassas, Va., men were arrested Sunday morning after Martinsburg City Police allegedly found 4.3 ounces of marijuana under the front seat of their vehicle while conducting a traffic stop.

Warren Patrick Jones, 23, and Eric Antwaun Reese, 23, were stopped by police at 1:18 a.m. after Jones allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Viking Way, according to a police news release.

Police detected an odor of marijuana and conducted a search after observing Jones and Reese make hand motions to conceal something under the front seat, the release states.

Police found a baggie of marijuana and $1,269.61 in cash in the vehicle, according to the release.

Jones was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana; Reese was arrested and charged with obstructing a police officer by giving false information, the release states.

Jones and Reese were taken to Eastern Regional Jail, where both were in custody Sunday evening, according to a jail spokesperson.
