John P. Strider, 83

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - John P. "Jack" Strider, 83, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Canterbury Center.

Born Oct. 19, 1921, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Emma Myers Strider.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Byers Strider, in 1987.

He was a 1939 graduate of Shepherdstown High School.

He retired in 1977 from the Shepherdstown Post Office after 31 years of service. He had been the postmaster for several years.

He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the American Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, among others.

He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown.

He was a member of the Shepherdstown High School Alumni Association; a member, former president, secretary and treasurer of the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department; and a member, adjutant and treasurer of the former Turner-White American Legion Post 126 of Shepherdstown.

He is survived by two daughters, June S. Thompson of Middleway, W.Va., and Judith S. Fadeley of Shepherdstown; one son, John P. Strider Jr. of Accident, Md.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jane Harris, Evelyn Mitchell and Virginia Holliday, and three brothers, Wallace Strider, Myers Strider and Nevin E. Strider.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. John Torrence will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Woodrow F. Robertson, 85

Woodrow Francis "Woody" Robertson, 85, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1919, in Pearre, Md., he was the son of the late Roy M. and Maude C. Ryan Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, C. Marie Alderton Robertson, in 1997.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of St. James Brethren Church.

He was a past master of Eureka Lodge 105 AF&AM of Sharpsburg; past grand tall of Hagerstown Forest 95 TCL; past member of the Scottish Rite and Ali Ghan Shrine Club of Cumberland; a member of Sayara Club; and past commander and member of American Legion Post 236 of Sharpsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Doris H. Robertson; one daughter, Sandra L. Culler of Keedysville; two sons, Gary F. Robertson of LaVale, Md., and Skip Robertson of Dover, N.H.; one stepdaughter, Chris Harple of Titusville, Fla.; one stepson, Tom Harple of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Machereth, and two brothers, James Robertson and Samuel Robertson.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Brethren Church. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Janet D. Lynn, 74


MAY 24, 1930-MARCH 22, 2005

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Janet Davis Lynn, 74, of Zephyrhills, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

Born May 24, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Leonard W. Davis of Zephyrhills and the late Mabel Stockslager Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Lynn, in 1986.

She was a 1951 graduate of Towson (Md.) Teachers College.

She had been an elementary school teacher in Maryland.

She was a member of Zephyrhills Red Hat Club, Tourist Club, Elks Club and Moose Club, all of Zephyrhills.

She is survived by four children, Patty Madden, Ed Lynn, Jim Lynn and Steve Lynn, and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Whitfield Funeral Home, Zephyrhills.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
