SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ryan Brady hit an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to score Nicky Brown to lift Shepherd University over Mansfield University (9-7) in the first game of a doubleheader.
Collin Brown, Joe Cook and Ryan Harju each had two hits for Shepherd in the opening game, while Nicky Brown scored four runs and had two RBI.
Collin Brown had three hits and drove in three runs for the Rams in the nightcap. Nicky Brown, David Toth and Joe Cook each added two hits for the Rams (9-6).
WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
Shepherd 14-7, Columbia Union 6-0
TAKOMA PARK, Md. - Karen Burnette pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the second game as Shepherd University swept a doubleheader from Columbia Union (1-14).
Megan Zahnow hit a solo home run and Charla Wacker added a two run triple for the Rams (6-5) in the nightcap.
Mia Zappacosta and Brooke Small each had three hits for Shepherd in the first game, while Julie Scherpf had four RBI, Jamie Griffin homered and Megan Zahnow had two hits.
AUTO RACING
Elite 11 coming to Hagerstown Speedway
The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series season opener is set for Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway.
Joining defending series champion Gary Tomkins in the Elite 11 - the 11 racers who will compete in all 25 points races - are Brett Hearn, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller, Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Steve Paine, Vic Coffey, Matt Sheppard, Stewart Friesen and Chad Brachmann.
Time trials will begin at 6 p.m.
