BRUNSWICK, Md. - Pat Curry had three hits and three RBI to lead Brunswick to a 9-7 victory over Walkersville in the season opener for each team Tuesday.

Aaron Main had two hits and struck out six for the Railroaders, while Andrew Derr, Cody Bechtol and Russ Frazier each added two hits.

Adam Shapelow and Ryan Kassab each had two hits for the Lions.

Urbana 6, Jefferson 5

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - David Smith had three hits and two RBI for Jefferson, which let an early lead slip away against Urbana.

Josh Simons added three hits for the Cougars (2-1), while Brian Collins had two hits and Jonathan Hash stuck out five.

Catoctin 4, Middletown 0

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Jake Yocum had seven strikeouts and J.J. Paglianete had two hits and two RBI as Catoctin shut out Middletown in each team's season opener.

CVCS 9, Mountain View 0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Sam Levy had two hits and an RBI and stuck out five as Cumberland Valley Christian opened its season with a win over Mountain View Christian.

Scott Levy had a double and an RBI for the Blazers.

Potomac Falls 11, Hedgesville 5

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Corey Chaney had two hits, including a triple, for Hedgesville in the loss to Potomac Falls.

Josh Huff added two hits and two runs for the Eagles (3-1), who gave up 10 walks.

John Carroll 10, St. John's-PH 0

BEL AIR, Md. - Scott Ritter, Nate Ziminick, Jimmy Duggan and Tim Connole had hits for St. Johns (2-2, 0-1) in the MIAA "A" Conference loss.


Tuscarora 6, North Hagerstown 5

Tuscarora edged host North Hagerstown in the season opener for each team.

Cara Thompson and Brooke Powell each had two hits for the Hubs.


Shepherd 8-11, Mansfield 7-2

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ryan Brady hit an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to score Nicky Brown to lift Shepherd University over Mansfield University (9-7) in the first game of a doubleheader.

Collin Brown, Joe Cook and Ryan Harju each had two hits for Shepherd in the opening game, while Nicky Brown scored four runs and had two RBI.

Collin Brown had three hits and drove in three runs for the Rams in the nightcap. Nicky Brown, David Toth and Joe Cook each added two hits for the Rams (9-6).


Shepherd 14-7, Columbia Union 6-0

TAKOMA PARK, Md. - Karen Burnette pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the second game as Shepherd University swept a doubleheader from Columbia Union (1-14).

Megan Zahnow hit a solo home run and Charla Wacker added a two run triple for the Rams (6-5) in the nightcap.

Mia Zappacosta and Brooke Small each had three hits for Shepherd in the first game, while Julie Scherpf had four RBI, Jamie Griffin homered and Megan Zahnow had two hits.


Elite 11 coming to Hagerstown Speedway

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series season opener is set for Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway.

Joining defending series champion Gary Tomkins in the Elite 11 - the 11 racers who will compete in all 25 points races - are Brett Hearn, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller, Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Steve Paine, Vic Coffey, Matt Sheppard, Stewart Friesen and Chad Brachmann.

Time trials will begin at 6 p.m.
