Special blood drive set

March 22, 2005

A special blood drive is to be held Friday in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Will Worthington Jr., a Clear Spring resident who was injured in Iraq.

The American Red Cross will set up at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool from 1 to 6 p.m. The church is off Exit 12 of Interstate 70. After exiting, turn left over the interstate bridge and turn right just past the Exxon station.

"We are hoping for at least 35 units of blood to be donated during this special drive," said Julie Shiben from the Winchester, Va., office of the Red Cross.

Anyone interested in donating in honor of Worthington is asked to call the Red Cross office in Washington County at 301-739-0717.

"There will be a banner there for everyone to sign for Will," Shiben said. Red Cross military T-shirts will be given away.

Worthington's wife and parents learned March 14 that the 2003 Clear Spring High School graduate was hurt in an explosion while on patrol in Iraq.
